Playrooms are the perfect spaces for children to play, learn, and explore. But designing and organizing a playroom can be a challenging task, especially when it comes to managing and rotating toys. In this blog post, we’ll share some tips on how to design, layout, and organize your playroom to create a fun and functional space for your little ones.

Design and Layout

When designing your playroom, it’s important to create a space that’s both fun and functional. Consider the age and interests of your children and create zones for different activities, such as a reading corner, arts and crafts area, and a space for active play.

When it comes to layout, try to keep the room open and uncluttered to give your children plenty of space to move around and play. Use furniture to create designated areas for different activities, but make sure there’s enough room for kids to play and move around without feeling cramped.

Organization and Toy Management

Organizing your playroom is essential to keeping the space functional and clutter-free. Here are some tips for managing and organizing your toys:

Categorize and Sort Toys

Sort toys into different categories, such as blocks, dolls, cars, and books, and keep them in separate bins or containers. Label the containers with pictures or words to help children identify and return toys to the correct place.

Purge and Donate

Regularly go through your toy collection and donate or discard items that are no longer used or played with. This will help keep your playroom clutter-free and make room for new toys.

Toy Rotation

Rotating toys is a great way to keep your children engaged and interested in their playthings. Store some toys away and bring them out later, or switch out toys on a regular basis to keep things fresh and exciting. Consider rotating toys based on the season or your child’s interests.

Wall Storage

Maximize your playroom space by using wall storage solutions, such as shelves or hanging organizers. This will free up floor space and keep toys off the ground, making it easier to clean and organize.

Designing and organizing a playroom can be a fun and rewarding task. By following these tips for layout, organization, and toy management, you can create a space that’s both functional and enjoyable for your children. Remember to keep the space open and uncluttered, categorize and sort toys, regularly purge and donate items, and rotate toys to keep your little ones engaged and interested.

Here are a few of my favorite organizational tools!

  • Label Maker - this one has so many different fonts and sizes!

  • Cube Storage - I love the KALLAX from Ikea, I've also purchased from Target, but having to lug them back to the house. I like these ones even better!

  • Stuffy Storage - my kids love their stuffies. These Hammocks are super cute! We also have these stuffed animal bean bag storage. We love them and use them in the playroom and the living room for extra blankets and pillows

  • Clear Storage totes - oh my! The uses for these are never ending! They work perfectly for toy rotation!
