Valentine's Day is a special occasion that provides a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate friendship, love, and kindness. A classroom party is a great way to make the day even more special and memorable. However, organizing a class party can be a challenge, especially with the excitement and energy of the students.

Kids are always so excited to hand deliver their special Valentine's card. But if you've ever put on a Valentine's Day classroom party, you know that can be a ton of work. Been there and done it. Here’s the Secret Recipe for How to Throw a Flawless Valentine’s Day Class Party

Step 1: Plan Ahead

The key to a successful Valentine's Day party is planning. Start by deciding on the time and duration of the party, as well as the activities and treats you want to include. Create a checklist of items you need, such as decorations, food, and craft supplies. Make sure to reach out to parents in advance to see if they can help with any of the preparations. My Be Mine Party Bundle comes with a planning guide to help with organizing your thoughts.

Step 2: Use Stations for Age-Appropriate Activities

Creating stations with a variety of activities allows the students to enjoy the party but ensures it’s not pure chaos. You can customize each station to your students’ needs or interests. Assign students to small groups and rotate them through each station at a specific time. This will help ensure that everyone has a chance to participate and that the party remains organized. Check out the secret ingredient below.

Step 3: Decorate Your Classroom

Creating a festive atmosphere is a great way to get your students excited about the party. Decorate your classroom with Valentine's Day-themed decorations such as streamers, balloons, and heart-shaped confetti. You can also make a photo backdrop where students can take pictures with their friends. In the bundle, you will find a printable banner that can hang from the whiteboard or table. I’ve also included table signs for stations (more about stations later).

TIP: Think about things you already have that you can bring in that add to the Valentine's Day vibe.

If you want to add some additional decorations here are a few of my favorite

  • Dollar Tree valentine's day balloons (they make good prizes for the game winners)

  • Stuffed Animals make great décor/balloon weights.

  • Disposable tablecloths – they come in any color and only a $1.25 ad the Dollar Tree or these direct to your home.

  • Regular tablecloths - If you throw a lot of parties, you may want to get reusable ones in a color like black so they can be used for every party and stand up way better to stains … like these ones (I LOVE THESE! Don’t need to worry about blowing off in the wind)

  • Cute Plates & Cups if you’re doing food (Covid has changed party protocols) These cute heart-shaped plates , white paper cups allow for kids to write their names on it it

  • Napkins – Cute valentines day napkins but sometimes I opt for plain napkins if I know I am throwing a party soon with similar color palette and buy in bulk. Plain pink napkins in small quantity (dollar store has all different plain color too!)

Step 4: Offer Healthy Snacks

While it's tempting to offer sweets and candy at a Valentine's Day party, it's important to also offer healthy snack options. Some ideas include fruit skewers, heart-shaped sandwiches, or popcorn. If you want to offer sweets, consider smaller portions or non-sugary options like yogurt parfaits. Remember to ask your teacher what’s allowed. This varies by school and teacher.

Step 5: Embrace the Valentine's Day spirit

Valentine's Day is about celebrating friendship and kindness, so it's important to encourage inclusivity and kindness among your students. Make sure that all students are included in the activities and have a chance to participate. Encourage students to make valentines for each other, and to write messages that promote kindness and positivity.

SHHHHHH!!! the secret ingredient is … STATIONS

Use Stations to Control the Chaos

For example, with 4 stations, your class can accomplish 4 fun activities in about an hour. Students spend about 12 minutes per station allowing an additional three minutes moving from station to station. Parties can vary in length and be sure to check with your teacher to see what his or her length preference is. So many parents want to help when it comes to parties. Ask for a volunteer to lead each table.

Here are a few activity options that you can print from the party bundle:

  • “I love you to pieces” craft

  • Be Mine Bingo

  • Word Search

  • Tic-Tac-Toe

  • How Many Kisses in the Jar?

Stem Activities

You can always pair your station activity with a Valentine’s Day book.

Here are additional some tips to help you plan a successful Valentine's Day class party.

  1. Set clear expectations - Before the party, set clear expectations for your students. Let them know what is expected of them, such as appropriate behavior, and rules about sharing treats or other items. This can help prevent confusion and minimize disruptive behavior.,

  2. Delegate – Divide and conquer. Parents are a great and willing resource for class parties. I don’t forget to ask for help, whether it's leading a station table, bringing a party supply item, or cleaning up, parents love to observe their children in a classroom setting and having them in the classroom is a great way to experience that.

  3. Communicate – Be sure to communicate with your parent volunteers and teacher. Be sure the teacher is aware of what you are planning.

Lastly, a Valentine's Day class party can be a fun and memorable way to celebrate the holiday with your students. By setting clear expectations, using stations to control the chaos, planning activities in advance, choosing healthy treats, and embracing the Valentine's Day spirit, you can create a successful party that your students will remember for years to come.
